A couple years ago I starting building a 72 Demon, I found and purchased a duel snorkel scoop and after debating which wing to use I decided on a go wing. I bought it from trim parts and it's a first place auto parts wing and is really nice. Well I ended up trading the 72 in on a nicer 71 Demon which made me decide to go with twin scoops instead of the dual snorkel, now I'm faced with the dilemma of using the go wing or buying a gull wing blade as it would be correct for 71, my car has the trunk lid with the rib but it does have the cutouts for the wing. I've read where some 71's came with a go wing instead of a gull wing and am wondering if that is true? If so I'll just use the go wing, if not I'll order a gull wing. I like them both equally. What's some of y'alls thoughts and also some of y'alls Demon wing pictures. Thank's Mitch

I would use the one you like better. Its not going to hurt the value if its not correct, it can be changed easily.

It's a matter of personal preference. Early 1971's may have gotten the Go Wing (Mustang style) and the rest received the 1971 Gull Wing. I prefer the Gull Wing myself as it's different from the Ford looking wing and I think flows better with the quarter panels.

70 and early 71 were Go wing . Later 71 was a gull wing. 72 was not available with a wing. That lid you have is a rare lid if it has the rib with the spoiler cut outs. I have owned and stripped many and only ever saw one. My opinion is that the gull wing matches the contour of the roof and tail panel of the Duster Demon body style. The go wing was for the 70 Dart swinger , Roadrunner , Super bee , Carried to the 70 Duster but was changed to fit the fuselage body styles for all 71 cars.

You can see this 71 Roadrunner has an After market wing. it has no arch they flatten in the sun and the points are more rounded

Good eye! The trunk lid is original to the car, build date 07/09/71 and it has 1972 bumpers, the horns are mounted in the 1972 position side by side and the engine is corporate blue.

I think I prefer the gull wing, but either would look good. I'd go with what you already have, but thats just me.

if the spoiler capable decklid is as rare as the poster says, you should only put one set of holes in it, so I think I'd go with the "correct" wing.

The last Deck lid with the rib for a wing that I had. Sold for $650.00 on Ebay 10 years ago . And it had two dents in it. I would say thit lid would be worth more today. It would put the correct deck lid on a 72-76 car for a wing. The ad on Ebay stated." Correct 72-76 deck lid for a wing. Why put a 70-71 weaker deck lid on your car". I believe these were replacement Deck lids for Duster and Demons that would have came with a spoiler If crashed in the later 70's. The one I had didn't look to be original paint. It was peeling on the inside.

one more thing, I would not use a twist drill to drill the holes. Instead use a step drill. They drill a rounder hole, especially in sheet metal, with less burring around the edges of the hole.

Here's my deck lid my car is a late build 71, August I believe, I need to look at the sticker in the door again, it appears to be the original deck lid, original color is F7 but it's been painted 70 lime light color, I can see the F7 up in the holes. I definitely want the gull wing, guess I'll use the go wing and change the blade later. Thank's for y'alls info!

Best looking option is just like your last photo.

No wing at all......... :)

But........

If you think you will be needing to push it home sometime then just make it look like a shopping cart & add the 'push bar'. ;-)

Wow that is a unique Deck lid. I personally like the wing. I am going to put the gull wing on my Demon. It came with the go wing. I traded the guy with the gold Demon pictured above about 20 years ago before he sold the car. He found the car and just bought it back . We just did the motor and clipped the car. He asked me if I still had his original wing? Not for sale. The pedestal brackets were broke on the gull wing and it was just flopping around. Not available then. I was making them out of steel. I have it with the rest of the wings upstairs.

My Demon didn't come with scoops so I am also going to add the Sizzler decal plus stripe and use the snorkle scoop from a 72. With all the exterior options Plus painted sport mirrors I think the 340 cars look pretty cool in a Pastel color with all the blacked out options. That was the best part of all the 71 Mopars. The graphics and the options.

Those FPAP pedestals that came with the kit I bought are nice, they have the Chrysler part numbers cast inside them, funny thing about the go wing blade is in the pedestal mount hole it has the Chrysler pentastar and part number on one side and the ford oval and part number under the other side, makes me wonder if the originals were that way. I love the gold Demon, be glad when you get your orange duster built back!

Mitch, when I had my '71 340 Duster. That's what I put on it was the Gull wing from FPAP. I was really happy with it.
