Getting ready to dismantle my leaf springs and install new shims & binders. Both kits I have looked at have galvanized shims included but Ido not see any in my spring bundles. The A-body kits all start at 68 up, mine is a 67. If i buy the kit, do install the galvanized shims?

Yep, you need the galvanized shims to keep the springs from binding together, the pads to keep the outer edge of the leafs from pounding into the other leafs when they are under torque, and the clamps to hold them together, but not bolted down tight! Every piece plays a part in an OE application, racing applications may vary!! Geof

Getting ready to Por-15 my leaf springs today, rebuild kits coming from RT specialties. I disassembled springs to properly clean and paint all leafs individually before assembly. Can anyone tell me if there is a problem having paint (Por-15 chassis black) between the leaves? was told this morning to paint after bundle is reassembled.

The springs have to move, thus rubing against each other.I tend to agree to paint after assembly.

Well they are painted now. The RT kit will have galvanized pieces to to in between the leaves, I will have to see how it goes, dont want to grind the new paint off. may just teflon them up or something!
