So, Kitty has my Mama's GE Super Deluxe hand held mixer she got as a wedding gift in 1951. It's always worked well. The electric cord recently rotted so I got another one. When it came in, I decided to take the mixer apart, clean it, service it and grease it. It's still in remarkable condition. The gears show almost no wear and the motor still runs strong and quiet. I've always loved the jet engine styling and what's so cool about that is, it almost works like a jet engine. It has an intake in the front and exhaust at the rear and you can feel the air going in the intake and out the exhaust from the cooling fan inside. Simply remarkable 100% AMERICAN engineering that will now likely last another 73 years. There's nothing on the shelf at WalMart that will come close.

my mom had one just like that. It was rumored they modeled some of the vehicles from "The Jetsons" after that model and that Gene Roddenberry added another handle to make the original starship Enterprise.

That wouldn't surprise me one bit.

It's back when companies took pride in their products and the people took pride in their work. In today's world it's all about profits, nothing but the bottom line. We have a Kenmore refrigerator that is every bit of 40 years old and I've never done anything to it other than keeping it clean and it works great. Today's world is built it as fast as you can and as cheap as you can and sell it high.

Mom had a mixer like that, come day it flew off the counter,,but only went as far out as the cord would let it. America at its best.
Yes, Frigadare too!!

Cant know what brand it was but my mom had one hell of a mixer. We played with it like a toy, simulating engine sounds and mimicking shift points.

Look in the mirror guys. The consumer drives the company. I still have an old kenmore tombstone reefer in my shop that my mother used years ago and I only got three years out of a new kenmore. WAL mart over Associated grocers, harbor freight over western auto. You can get a new mixer from Amazon shipped to you $29.95 but mom and pop mixer $79.95 Merle Haggard had it right, the good times are really over for good. Are we waiting for the”free bubble up”? Yes it is a different time!!!

My mom had one of those, too! Same color and everything. I think she got it from her mother. My brother and I licked lots of cake batter off those beaters over the years.

My old US made box fan that last 30+ years before dying. Gone through 5 or 6 of the walmart/target fans in the last 10-15 years. Spent more on those 5 or 6 than I did on the 30 year old fan.

Shareholders/consumers when profits and return on investment rule along with a race to the bottom cheap price drives sales over quality, you get a result that is less than favorable.
