I soaked base and jack mechanism in Evaporust for a few days.
Cleaned with soap, water and a toothbrush.
Then removed remaining scale with a soft wire wheel on bench grinder.
Also used soft wire wheel on jack to get into the catch grooves.
Base and mechanism painted with rust inhibitor primer, then black paint.
From the sheen in pictures I think I used satin finish; can't remember for sure.
Took a lot of time to get the inside of mechanism primed and painted without getting runs all over the outside.
I shot jack pole with dull aluminum paint to get close to original look.
