reverse question

Ok, I have my shifter clamped in my vice to check all of the lever functions after rebuilding it but I am puzzled on the reverse function. When I try to shift it into reverse the 1-2 lever is moving also, the reverse lever does move back like it should but the 1-2 lever has me concerned, is it supposed to move also. When I move the shifter to the neutral position the reverse lever moves back and forth freely, am I missing something.

72 dodge dart with pistol grip. I think I figured it out, put an alignment pin thru 1-2 and 3-4 then pulled it over to reverse it was a little hard but it went like it should might just be a little stiff from being rebuilt

Yes, find neutral first.

Mine did the same thing on the bench, when I bolted it to the trans to test it, it worked fine. Reverse takes a pretty good pull on mine to get into, the shifter is still stiff from the rebuild.
