Ok so I am thinking about changing the rocker arms on my 360.

Set up as of now

1971 360
340 J head 2.02 and 1.60 valves
std bore flat tops
what we thonk to be the .509 cam

I would like to change the 1.5 rocker it had now to adj 1.6 rockers how much more clearance would I need. When I did this I would also rework the heads and have them ported.

What would 1.6 rockers bring my cam lift to and would it make it sound better.

Better you even buy an single thing, you need to measure your distance between the top of the piston and the valve to see if you have the room to use 1.6 ratio rockers. Also if you are not currently use roller rockers and are using factory rockers, you don't have a TRUE 1.5 ratio rocker arms. They are more like 1.33-1.44 ratio rockers

Yeah kinda figured but it will be a good time before I get the down time to pull the head and measure it all.

remember...max lift occurs went the piston is way down in the bore..you need to check the piston to valve clearance during the cam over lap period where the exhaust is closing the intake is opening....

do you know how far your pistons down in the bore?...how thick the head gasket is?....do the pistons have notches in them?
