Rods face which way?

I took my rods out before I sent the block out, and now when I got the block back I forgot how I took the rods out. They are marked 1-8 but I don't know which way faces the front of the motor.

And the oiling hole points to the opposite cylinder.

no. As stated before the chamfered edge of the rod goes against the crank counterweight. So on each journal one rod will face forward and one will face towards the back.

Ah okay! Makes sense, so the 2nd pic side should face forward and then reversed for the next rod?

The small end goes "up".







Bah, ha ha... Sorry, I can't resist being a wise ***. The side of the rod with no chamfer goes against the adjacent rod. The chamfer runs against the counterweight on the crank. I think the cap also has an arrow cast in that points forward, IIRC.

I hope you didn't mix up the rod caps, cuz then you're REALLY screwed!
