Rust on outside of slip yoke.

So stupid me left the Transmission slip yoke exposed to the elements by accident now the outside of the yoke is rusted. Am I going to need a new one or could i sand off the rust and reuse this one?

If it is just surface rust, just get some steel wool or fine grit sand paper and clean it up. As long as there are no pitts and the surface smoothes out you are good to go.

I have cleaned them up (when not pitted) using my bench grinder that has a wire wheel on it

Steelwool and a lube.
Minor pits are ok. Minor pits are welcome. Except in the seal area, and about 3/8inch on either side of it.
