Hi, hoping a trans guru out there can diagnose this problem.
Put this 727 trans on 318 into dart just for ease of installation.(by myself)
Trans came with 318 engine I bought. Knew nothing about its condition.
All I did was change filter/cleaned pan didn't smell bad or burnt or metal shavings visible.

Car shifts but only after being in neutral a while. Seems sluggish but engine runs great.
When I first put trans fluid in started up in neutral, put in drive nothing. well a few quarts overfilled then car starts to move and shift. Let warm up shut down. Next day gallon of trans fluid under car I believe from bottom of filler tube???? Not pan. No leaks until after shut down when hot.

Torque converter?

Thanks for your time.

sounds like it's time for a rebuild, all the soft seals are hard.

X2 Time to come apart.

If it does need to be rebuilt, make sure you replace the converter with a rebuilt unit, and make sure the front pump bushing is replaced.
If you suspect the leak is from the converter area, hub is likely scored.

So, are you saying that you installed the tranny onto the engine? If so, did you correctly fit the TC; to the pump, and input, and stator support? And was the TC known to be a match to the tranny? The reason I ask is , it sounds to me like a problem in the pump. In which case it will have to come out.
Unless somehow that new filter is more or less completely restricting the pump pick-up.Guess thats worth a look-see.
As to the leak; that could be the o-ring at the bottom of the filler tube, coupled with the overfull tranny.

Found a different trans out of running vehicle.
Going with that for now.

Thanks for responding, if and when I find problem with trans
will post.
