The new crank in my 340/420 did not come with a crankshaft key for the harmonic balancer. So, I pulled the key out of my OE 340 crank and deburred/installed it, and the height of the key is too tall for my balancer. It appears to be too tall by apx .012-.018” along the key.

Is this a fit to suit (grind as needed) when installing the key, or should I pull it back out, clean out the keyway, and try to reinstall it?

Thanks!

It sounds like the keyway wasn't cut deep enough. Call the crank company. They may have the proper key.

Thank you TMM!

I just emailed K1 to see if they have one for this crank.

Don't over think this. I would grind what you have to fit. I seriously doubt the crank maker has a special key to fit their crank.

crank keys @ Mancini - used one of these in a K1 I have.

Last night, I grabbed my file and with a little bit of effort, my harmonic balancer fits like it should.
Thank you all!
