How easy is it for you to light up your MTs on the street? I'm talking mild SB A body guys, I just jetted my carb back down 3 & 3 to the original jetting, Now i can fry these tires from a small role damn near through 2nd. gear with 17 lbs. air , Is it me, its not like i have alot of gear or stall or even engine for that matter, because i don't, it does well at the track though, I'm just curious because i hear alot saying how well/much better there car hooks "on the street" now that they have them on :munky2:.

Ahhh, but the track is treated, and should stick better.
I could incinerate my 325x50x15 BFG's if I wanted to on the street.
But it is Big Block Powered

Thats why i want to here from SB guys, i had MTs on my 440 D-100 & couldn't fry them on the street, & that was on 100 shot out of the gate, my 97 Z28 6sp. hooked decent with them too. i can understand why those BFGs wouldn't hook, especially behind a BB :-D.

I switched from Dunlop's to drag radials (same size). Went from no traction with the Dunlop's to can't hardly spin the drag radials at all, even when their cold. About 10 ft. is max if I power brake it. My car isn't a holeshot monster but it runs ok. 60 ft. was 1.95 and it ran a 13.50 at 103 in the 1/4. One thing is I'm running 30 lbs. of air in them. That's where they do the best. I'm not positive but I think you should have more air in yours. Their not quite like a slick that you run real low air pressure in. That's just my guess though. If I'm wrong someone slap me:eye:

I don't know what I could run to keep them from going up in smoke.
I seem to have to much power. LOL
your right about the bfgs they are worthless,as soon as my father inlaw gets my mts for me 255-60-15 i will let you know

I can roast mine pretty much at will. I'm running 255-60-15 MT DR tires. If I stand on it from a dead stop they pretty much never stop spinning till I run out of gas.

Ive got a pretty decently high stall in my car and 4.11 gear, but I can light them in 2nd gear if I mat the gas. Its worse on asphalt for sure.

Steve

Streets don't offer the traction as the strip does. I have no problem lighting them up behind my 340 at anytime.

Thanks guys, at least i'm not the only one, Steve, i'm glad your having the same affects on the street, that tells me i'm good then, because your car 60fts. HARD at the track & gets it done.

Fishy, i've tried more pressure, that was worthless lol, 16-17 seems to work the best on the street, thats not saying much though.

I was running this thing "FAT", 70/76 jets, its a 650dp, it wouldn't spin for nothin, but now that i went back to 67/73s its frying them again, I lost about .03 on the 60ft., I might have just gotten it back if i ever make it back to the track this summer.

I'll post a pic of the marks i layed down, had to let off before i went through the fence at the other end of the storage :-D.

my Nitto DR, spin slightly, maybe a few revolutions they are 275/60/15, i only have a 3.55 gear but 4400rpm stall, car in the past was a 1.66 60'

Don't run my m/t's on the street their wayyy too sticky, but i;m sure they'd light right up behind this 360...:-D:-D

LOL. Thanks man! Yeah, I'm pretty impressed by these tires at the track. Once you get to a certain power level its pretty much hopeless on the street.

If it was really important, there are things you can do to really improve hook on the street. Ballast box, timing retard in first gear, or on a timer, using adhesives on the tire. Not really worth it unless you're street racing or some other highly illegal unrecommended foolishness.

EL5Demon: That's a very impressive 60' time for Nittos.

I wish I could run that big a tire without cutting up my car. :(

I had a pair of Nitto drag radials that worked better in the rain than the Goodyear Eagle GSCs that came stock on the car (Mustang Cobra). LOL

The 422 E body will spin for all of first (3.23s, 2400 stall) and at the track slides around in first with them. But it's set for handling too. Sway bars, etc. I like the Nitto 555s. Very capable tire on mixed use vehicles.

Is this a 422 SB or BB ???

They say the Nittos hook decent on the street, at least from the F body Camaro guys, but at the track, the MT or Hoosiers are much better, especially in a stick car.

I just measured my marks, i layed down 85 ft. of tracks & that was letting off in 2nd. gear., I have to stop doing that, these tires are too damn exspensive.

That looks really good.

Moper, I have a set of the Nitto 555's as well...315/35/17 and a 17x11 wheel...

Joe... sorry... I missed the non stroker part...lol.
555s are a road course tire at heart. Not a drag race tire. That's why I think they are one of the best overall. They do all well. I've only watched them used on GMs and Fords, late model stuff. On the track they were on par with anything else out there, but these cars were not hard launchers due to suspensions.

Where I live, they have been repaving roads with a new chemical that makes it pretty slick. It's one of their new weapons against street racing, once you lose traction...it just spins and spins. it's irritating at stop signs and such, makes it look like your hot rodding your car when you really aren't trying to.

I even punched it rolling at about 25mph in an industrial part of town that was paved last year and it just roasted the tires. We were all wondering why there was no more traction.. our police buddies told us about it. :/ Just a thought.. in case you're on newly paved streets or lots.

have fun.

:thumrigh:

They must be pulling your leg.

That would be a brilliant idea. We'll slow down the street racers, but kill all kinds of other people.

Soccer moms need all the traction they can get.
