RustyRatRod's Guide To Hot Rod Bliss
...bought back some memories from "back in the day". A drive thru my HS parking lot back then one would see a lot of late 60's-early 70's GM-Ford-Mopars. Chevrolet were very common. Standard fare....clapped out 307, "3/4 race cam", 850 Double Pumper, Blackjacks & Cherry Bombs, stock convertor, no shift kit and 2.9:1 gears. Lots of chrome, the "SS lines" with hose clamps. Bone stock ignition with big fat Accel wires and the infamous yellow coil. Spaghetti for wiring harness. Most of these guys thought that the "3/4 race cam" meant it had .750" lift. The bulk of these hot rods had a pet leg rear...and couldn't even spin a tire without cracking the adjusters down on the rear drums and riding the brake pedal. These guys didn't even know where Island Dragway was but yet knew they had high 9 second quarter mile cars.

yes sir, that was back in the day, good times. you didn't mention the hijacker air shocks. lol cars jacked to the moon with slots and wide meats.

And then there is the '67 Chevy wagon with the supercharged 327 all tucked up under the hood waiting for victims like one of those bug eating plants.

Our big thing was adding headers with JUST Thrush beer can header mufflers and nothing else. Man did that sound good.

That was 70's /80's high school, no buck hot rodding... "Looking Tough" ..on a budget on cruise night, was cooler than actually going fast.. Eventually, you figure it out,or find another passion..

Im jealous of when you guys had gotten to grow up. I've always told people I wish I was a teen in the 50's or the 70's.

Miller ponies stashed under seats and clove boxes in these old street hot rods, driving gravel roads on a rain day (no work in rain) bar hopping and not getting pulled over between bars back in the day.

I was happy to have been a teenager before everyone had cell phones. I was 16 in 2000 and you still had to drive around to see where everyone was at. Hanging out on Main Street. The big hype of a potentially awesome party that you actually heard about through word of mouth not text messages or Facebook.
Everybody had montecarlos with 295's that would rub with people in the back seats.

I really like the rustyradrod thread also. It's spot on.
