I am in the process of restoring my 69 Barracuda. I am looking for a carb core to rebuild. How far in advance of a mid March 1969 vehicle production date should I look for in the month cast into carb? What would be a reasonable number of months in advance if I want to be fairly accurate?

Great comparison. Production dates are fun to study. The Carbs were made at Carter and probably warehoused there for a time until they were sent to Mopar's warehouse where they were warehoused until they ended up on an engine. That engine was warehoused until it meets up with the rest of the car. You can see the timeline there.

As long as it's prior to the build date in that model year, nobody could say anything regarding the date.

You could have a carb on it that was dated sept 68 as long as it's the correct numbered carb. General observations in most parts is 2-4 months prior. "Just in time" inventory procedures were not in use back then. I've seen cars that had a SPD that was 3 weeks before the engine was built... yeah, that doesn't exactly jive.

The SPD is only a scheduled production date, not the actual.
