I plan to build the 273/904 combo going into my '64 Valiant soon. I am keeping the push-button shifter, but am not having any luck finding a valve body and/or shift kit to fit a pre'66 904. Are the differences in the newer transmissions such that i can't use those parts at all? Or can somebody point me in the right direction? I also plan to put a higher stall converter in - same issue with parts availability, although it seems a competent machine shop can machine one to work for me. Any other suggestions? I did a quick search of the forum, but the words "shift", "kit" and 904 are in here about eleventybillion times..

Thanks for any assistance!

how far is Croydon PA from the philly area? i have a local trans guy that could build something for you...

Hello, Glad you're keeping the pushbutton you'll be happy you did. People always tell me that it's really cool. I'm running a 64 904 pushbutton in my dart that has a reverse manual valve body that I got from Mancini racing I'm sure they carry what you're looking for. Jayson

I called Hughes Performance in AZ (tech line 602 257-9591) asking about a torque converter for my '64 Barracuda (also a 904 push-button). Told them I was building the 273 basically stock with a slight cam upgrade, stock 2.73 gears. I was told they used to manufacture them (Pt# 18-20, stall speed 2000 rpm) and can still custom build one for $207, would take about a week. The guy was courteous on the phone. I'm probably taking that route.

Check with Dynamic Converters - they should be able to help you and they should be pretty close to the Philly area over there in DE.

Red gut in mine too. Not as pretty as yours yet, though.. :) Will be ripping up the old carpet for a new red one. The one in my car was dyed by the previous owner. Will also be swapping out the stock bench for Signet buckets in new Legendary skins.
