Shifter linkage adjustment?

I'm seeing conflicting views on setting the linkage. It's a 727 with a shiftkit that retains the auto shift features (unknown manufacturer). Is the linkage adjustment done in Park, or Neutral? The linkage rod adjustment is what I mean.

I have a floor console. I'm waiting for new shifter bushings, so it's a bit sloppy at the moment.

I'l be trying to adjust it by myself. I noticed the "park" method was a crapshoot. I needed your advice before I crawl under the car again.
