I am have a push in style shifter mechanism. But I am purchasing a bolt in style shifter stick. Can the push in style mechanism be modified to work with the bolt in shifter stick. Can I just drill a couple bolt holes in the mechanism? Are there differences other than the bolt holes?

I tried this years ago with my 70, which had a pistol grip. I bought a competition plus, but if you look at the bolt in levers and the shifter, you'll discover flutes that "match" each other when the lever is installed in the shifter. This prevents movement of the lever which will happen if you simply drill the push in lever.

I finally welded my pistol grip lever into the aftermarket shifter to solve the problem.

If I were to get another shift mechanism, which would work with my A body 4 speed with the B body shifter?
