had to put our 13 year old husky mix dog down a couple weeks ago ben thinking about a pure bred siberian husky any advise good or bad would be appreciated

had two of them.. had to put the female down early this year. still have the male.. the female was a great dog. loved to be everywhere with you. didn't like anything creature with feathers though..lol pain in the *** about staying in the pen. i built a 40x100 foot pen so when we were at work or out for the day they wouldn't be cooped up in the house. after the first time she got out of it there was no stopping her after that. other then that she was a great dog and listened very well. the male we have is stubborn as an ox. bastard listens when he thinks he should listen... he never was a problem getting out of the pen till recently. in the house he is great. just lays around and doesn't bother anyone. likes his walks. after a nice long walk he will crash for quite a while. the biggest thing with these dogs is th shedding .. holy crap is it bad... it gets everywhere. we shave ours for the summer. they really seemed to like it...

Roxanne was a siberian Husky, great dog, left at 13 yrs also. The girl we have today Nikita is Alaskan Husky. She'll be 9 haloween. Shes not the companion Roxanne was but shes a good dog in her own way. Hair making machines, that's for sure.
So long as you can let them blast off and run like a deer once in a while.

They make mini's if the normal size is too much of a hassle

They have a bit of a tendency to dig, too. Take one to the beach and it's like watching a recreation of D-Day.

I had a short hair Siberian for 8 years. The most faithful dog I have ever owned. We had a knock him down and drag him out fight every once in a while to determine who was boss, but once I won that he was great. I have never seen a better dog around kids. He sure liked to run as well. I would drop him off of the truck about 3 miles from the camp and he would run the rest of the way to the camp. They can only have one master. As far as he was concerned, I was the boss, he was second and the wife was third. She never got over that. LOL

I failed to mention how good they are with kids. Our dogs easily learned the difference between shoes, kids toys, and their own toys. If I give Niki a plush stuffed she knows she can rip it up. The todlers could toss half dozen more of similar in the floor and she wont touch them.
Huskies enjoy tug of war. Both dogs would play fetch only briefly. Oddly enough, they love to run but not back and forth. Unlike a Cocker Spanial that will fetch a tennis ball all day long ( we had a few of those too ). A Cocker will snap at a todler when an ear is pulled ,etc.. but the Huskies wouldn't. Niki is so submissive that she pees every time the vet tries to put her up on the scales. LOL

yea both loki and meka were/are great with our little one. meka used to be very protectant of my little girl. would keep an eye on anyone they was near the baby.

they are a lot like wolves. they are a pack animal so they do better with a second dog. and like already stated once they know their place in the pack (your family) they are great. you just have to show them that you are the alpha in the pack..lol
