!! Side cover swap !!

Looking to put a 68 side cover (Ball detent version) on a 72 4-speed (Lever style). Yes I do have correct shift forks. The gear shift levers on the 72 side cover are all rounded off and chewed up, so I wanted to use the old side cover that is in better shape.

Is this a good idea?

Should I stop being a cheap skate?

good idea. it's said the b-n-d covers shift quicker or work better for slick shift transmissions.
