silvolite good brand for 340 upgrades? Otherwise I would choose icon or KB243 for bump compression up a bite for 72 340 future build.
When ever you replace pistons you balance the engine. That is a must at my sons shop. They never weigh the same.Keep an eye on the weights as well, or you'll be adding a "balance" to the budget.
I hear you. I'm using Silvolites in my build with stock rods to retain the somewhat original balance. Did all the weight measures and they are pretty darn close. No balancing for this cat. When ever you replace pistons you balance the engine. That is a must at my sons shop. They never weigh the same.
My son does a lot of race engines here . You would not believe the power difference in an engine when the balance is perfect.I hear you. No doubt, pretty impressive stuff. My son does a lot of race engines here . You would not believe the power difference in an engine when the balance is perfect.
Some over 9000 RPM's and they feel like an electric motor.
Harmonics really slow things up. Put a slightly bent pulley on an electric motor and see what happens. It will never reach advertised RPM's
I was down in the shop tonight and my son was balancing a 500 inch new Molnar BB race crank. I took a video tonight. You would not believe How far it was out and how much you could feel it in the Balancer. He is going to cut the counter weights down alot and rebalance it I'll start a thread to show the difference. He was chucking it up in the lathe when I walked up.

I would balance it anyway. The pistons you are going to could weight more or less than the ones you are replacingKeep an eye on the weights as well, or you'll be adding a "balance" to the budget.
That's why I said keep an eye on the weights.......Build with stock replacements. No need to balance if they weigh the same.I would balance it anyway. The pistons you are going to could weight more or less than the ones you are replacing
Chrysler engines are notoriously out of balance from the factory anyway. They always batch build engines. If they were close they were good enough for the factory.
anybody who doesnt is anI cannot stress to you all enough how important it is to balance an engine when replacing pistons. You say factory built engines were never perfect? Could be why some ran better and lasted longer. Why anyone that does engines would downplay balancing and say its not necessary is beyond me.
Balancing is not only important for power & rpm's but also for endurance.
. I taught my son that balancing was the most important thing to do on anything that spins when he was 10 years old building slot cars. He would balance everything.
anybody who doesnt is an asshat
I think Speed Pro pistons would be closer to OEM than the KB silvolite pistonsSilvolite is a stone stock cast replacement.
I believe the Speed Pros are dead on, actually.I think Speed Pro pistons would be closer to OEM than the KB silvolite pistons
