Skip White distributor... Only "1 sold" on eBay (?)

I've been trying to learn about electronic distributors, HEI, and original points style distributors. I think I'm going to go with the Skip White HEI setup, as I've read a lot here about people running them with good results and performance. I looked on eBay, found the seller and the distributor, the ad says "more than 10 available, 1 sold" (?) am I looking at the right distributor? Also, a while back somebody was going to posting a detailed installation with findings on the Skip White distributor, anybody have the link? BTW, this was for an LA engine (360) going in my Dart.
 
There's been a tremendous amount of discussion about these on here, I'd do a search

I've forgotten, what kind of module they use, IE it is not a GM HEI but similar. Holden? or something? I forget.

One big "thing" I have with stuff like this, or Pertronix, is "if it quits." You just about need to buy two to have a spare.

I run what amounts to a factory Mopar breakerless distributor, so, "available anywhere" and I've already got "some." I use a GM HEI module, available at any parts store. Nearly as available is the original "type" Mopar ECU

The great thing about running a GM HEI is that the "seem" to be a bit better quality than typical replacement Mopar ECUs, and you don't need a ballast. Even with a factory coil, you get a hotter spark

Hey thanks Del, but what I'm trying to figure out is why there has only been ONE sold on the eBay auction I posted the link to! Am I looking at the wrong one? Or did they discontinue the one everybody has been using?

He has more than one part number listed for Mopar small blocks so you should send him a message and ask him directly.
 
I don't know how ebay works. He may get "a bunch" and sell 10 or 5 or XX at a time in one auction listing. Skip White seems to have a good rep even though these are obviously a low budget import.

same distributor sold by another merchant.....441 sold...

It would be nice if Skip would sell one with a correct looking cap. The GM style contacts don't do it for me. This seller has a cap that looks more like a Mopar.

Skip White has probably sold >1000 of those SB distributors. One guy here lives near them, and it is a long-standing brick & mortar speed shop. The manufacturer is Ningo Lingbao (recall, I posted yesterday). I bought one (haven't installed yet). They look well-made. I will probably change the module to an 8-pin GM HEI for its spark timing control (cut holes in the cover). Plug wires for a Magnum engine should fit the cap, and those are cheaper/better anyway. I bought Skips $20 e-core coil at the same time.

For backup, I keep a spare points distributor in the trunk and a 2 bbl carb, for my classics. More likely to get stranded in my newer cars since parts can be tough to get. I had to wait 1 wk for a rubber belt timing set for one Chrysler minivan, and a shop had to drive 60 miles to get a plastic pulley for another Chrysler minivan (and they sold a gazillion minivans). I keep those parts in the back now, but who knows what other rare part will strand us in the future.

Anyway, I'm waffling between HEI and Mopar electronic ignition... I know basically nothing about either one, other than what I've learned here. I sure appreciate you guys help.
 
Don't care for the failure rate of pertronix drop in modules as they tend to over heat and burn. Too many customers returning for a failed unit. I usually recommend MSD Billet distributors or The GM style HEI ignitions work great and parts are easy to get. DUI (Davis Unified Ignition) makes some good stuff I have used and can vouch for.

Did you ask him what the difference is in the two different Mopar small block distributors that he has listed is? The pictures show them and they look identical from the outside. Is one better than the other? Need different accessories to work correctly? If they are the same why would there be two different part numbers?
 
Yeah, that's what I was wondering. There's a little too much 'fluff' in the description for me to sort thru.
