Why are no after market valve covers have a place to put a oil fill cap . Every slant I’ve had 70-73 always have 3 holes . Why don’t after market ones ?

Most aftermarket valve covers for the slant are not very good quality. The older factory VC only had two holes, so that is what the aftermarket copied, and never did the upgrade. Also they do not have baffles inside the cover, and generally a thinner gauge metal, which distorts, and leaks. The chrome ones have a poor chrome plating, and start to rust quickly. The old Mopar performance, and Direct Connection covers were the best. If I really wanted a chrome VC, I would find a nice stock cover, and have a quality shop Chrome plate it. For an aluminum VC, the best quality one (in my opinion) is the Aussie Speed, but they are fairly pricey. Older Offie are OK, but newer ones have quality issues, Can't comment on Clifford quality.

If you notice, a lot of the generic V-8 valve covers do not have the twist on oil fill cap either.
Jus sayin...

Agree, but the newer Offie VC's have had warped flanges, and no polishing in the area of the bolt "indents" (just raw casting).
concerning the reported warped flanges,,
I found that the Offy valve cover that I purchased through the slant six group buy (and this has been 10 years ago) did not fit flush on a peanut - mechanical valve train head, it rocked from side to side. On the carb side of the head the valve cover rail, was hitting on the edges on some cast in bosses that are not present on drool tube - mechanical heads. A cast aluminum VC will have a thicker cross section than a stamped steel VC. A hit with a dye grinder and all was fine. Remember the Offy valve cover has not changed since it was introduced. The landscape around the slant valve cover rail on the heads has changed a lot.

And concerning the report of poor aluminum finish. My guess is that the folks complaining had seen a cast aluminum valve cover with a perfect 'show' polish job at a car show and they thought all aluminum valve covers look like that.

The Offie valve covers from years ago, did have better polishing. It might not have been "show" quality, but any/all raw casting was polished. Just a case of less pride/money, in a product
