What is this heat shield shown in the FSM?
I've never seen a slant six with such a heater shield like this... between the exhaust manifold and the battery.

:thankyou:

I know they used to put heat shields on the batteries on Mopar Police & Taxi package vehicles. Maybe you have one of those? Could be at one time, an item that the mechanic servicing the car, just left off when it had to be removed for whatever reason. I don't ever remember seeing that kind of heat shield on a slant 6 either. If you have it, keep it in place. It might be to shield the battery from the exhaust manifold heat.

In the 80s when they started putting a converter right off of the manifold they started putting an asbestos looking white "plate" between the intake and carb, it actually was sandwiched between them, held on by the carb fasteners. After a few years these crumbled away.
Some cars also had that thermo guard over the battery. My 78 fury has this and unfortunately they built the washer fluid bottle into it.
My dad's 79 Aspen and my mom's 79 Lebaron also had this mom's car was a super 6 car. The fury and Aspen were 318s.
But being that you show the old RV 2 compressor I think you're talking something older than I am

Hi niceolddart
No, I don't have this kind of heat shield on my slant-six. As my engine is at 99% stock, I was wondering about this mysterious heat shield.
Maybe effectively for special heavy duty versions only, as Police cars or taxis, and logically shown in the 1970 FSM beside standard models.

Thx
