I guy told me that a starter from a 400 would work on a slant six and bolt right on. is this true and would it help my slant six start better?

It will bolt right up, but all of the chrysler factory starters are the same. The later ones (73-up?) were a little longer and supposedly a little stronger. One of the late model mini starters should work too.

I concure, the starters will interchange between engines, /6, SB, BB. The longer one dusterdon is talking about has a little longer motor body.

Would a high torque from a 94 - 01 Ram 318 or 360 also work?

Yes as others have stated it will work. Plus to my understanding the ones for the bb have an extra copper wire in them to help with the higher torque needed for the bb,
