Slant six transmission in a v-8 car?

I have a 66 barracuda, the transmission is giving me trouble. It looks like I may have to get it re-built, however I was planning to put a v-8 in my car before spring. Is it possible to swap bellhousings, so the tranny would mount up to my future v-8? I don't really want to rebuild the tranny only to have to ditch it in a few months?

on a stick yes


on an auto not really... you would have to put all the slant 6 trans inards into the v-8 trans case ( basically a total rebuild) and even then i'm not sure if everything will interchange.

Used to be some 727's that were small block sized but had a factory adapter plate to mate to the slantz! I saw one a couple of years ago in a 3/4 ton truck, it is gone now!
