I know this has been beat to death but i am just curious im about 8 degrees before tdc. The engine sounds good and runs like a top. Is that a reasonable degree of timing?

It was up to about 20 degrees and it drove but not great at idle the engine would vibrate.

I mean literally vibrate. You would feel the whole car would shake. The mounts need to replaced but the gibratio still felt excessive.

8° BTDC is an entirely reasonable setting that sounds like it's working well for you. You can experiment with more, but keep careful track of your gas mileage and listen carefully for pinging; I think you'll probably wind up going back to 8°.

805moparkid Yes with the timing at about 20 degrees the vibration was definitely consistent and it just didn't feel as responsive. Now I hit the gas and it responds immediately the vibration does not happen and the engine is quieter in general.

yea, my 66 does the same thing when you over advance the timing. Its because the engine is running rougher at idle, and the motor mounts are worn completely out. The lower and rougher idle makes the car shake, lol. Thats on mine anyhow.... Mounts are completely cracked up.

You can get urethane interlock mounts for the '62-'66 A-body with slant-6 now, see here.

ok cool, Thanks alot. I'll be picking up a set of these in the near future. Thats not a bad price at all
