I have my engine on its stand, now im going to start to wash it. First I'm going to pressure wash it to get the big chunks of sludge off, what will work best to get the oily residue off? Brake cleaner, gunk engine cleaner, or any degreaser?
>or will sand blasting work best after I pressure wash? thanks for all the help
>I also need to clean my tranny also with what ever works best

I Find Brake Cleaner First then Citrus goo REmover works a treat then a nice gurnie down after i apply degeaser after the first two

Definately, NO sand blasting! The sand will get everywhere and eventually destroy the engine. Try using kerosene. It's an excellent cleaner and cheap too. You can power wash it afterwards, but give it a coat of oil or WD-40 to prevent rust from forming.

Go to the dollar store and buy a couple cans of their oven cleaner. The lye in it will disolve the cacked on grunge and will even strip most of the paint. Just don't get it on your hands!!

I would also consider regasketing it. The solvents will eat the gasket material too. Plus, it always seems like the grunge is helping to seal things..lol.
