Sigh... I used to know all this stuff...

I just found a 727 behind a 360 in a pick-up truck. It had a -489 case 8 3/4 out back, with 2.92 gears. I don't know if either of those would be an indicator that the trans has beefier guts in it.

What's a small block 727 go for these days? Money is really tight, and if I can pull this thing out and flip it for a little extra project money, I'd be thrilled.

What're they worth, and with the availability of 518s with Overdrive, does anyone mess with the basic 3 speeds anymore?

Thanks,
-Brad

If the tranny is in working order and comes with the convertor, you should get 250-350.Decode the tranny as well,on www.mymopar.com to know for sure whats it out of.If you sell it as a core, its 150$ part,no warranty.mrmopartech

Around me (Illinois) a junkyard an old 3/4 worn out 727 goes for $150-250. Can't get that much for them on the open market here. Junkyards are always more expensive here.

Most truck 727's had 4 pinion planetary gear sets and a 4 clutch plate front carrier so they are somewhat heavier duty than a std. car trans.
