I am installing the engine front end of my sb 360 in my Duster. The engine has a 3 groove crank pulley, which will drive the alternator, water pump amd power steering pump. Which groove drives which device/devices?

Thanks in advance,

bwhitejr

The inside groove drives the water pump and the alternator. The middle groove drives the power steering pump. The outside groove drives the AC compressor. My car has a three groove crank pulley too. It has the single belt compressor setup. Hope that helps you out.

on a ps car i believe that the belt closest to the motor is the alt, water pump and crank belt. then the next one forward should be the ps to crank belt.

That was on my 67 barracuda. As you stated, 70 up cars had 4 groove crank pulleys with air. Nice graphic!

yea i figured it was something older.. think jamies 69 dart is like you said.

that pic came out of a service manual i have here.

you know you have to watch some of those treuck set ups.. i know when i had my non a/c lil red express it used an idler pulley where the a/c would be. so i guess if thats what you have then there is where the problem is.

here is the set up on my dart. it is the correct non a/c set up. without a/c you should never need to use the front pulley on a 2 groove alt. if it only lines up with the front groove then there is a problem somewhere. will it work? yes but it isn't correct.

see how the alt and water pump uses the rear most pully? the front pulley would be for the power steering.

here is where i think your problem is...

the black pulley is an A/C pulley.

the chrome pulley is a NON A/C pulley.

see the difference ? i know it isn't much deeper but its enough deeper. i think it is where your problem is.
