A friend bought a water pump gates 43030.

It has 3 ports by the bypass

And the gasket shape is different.

The applications say they are for the same engines

Thoughts?

If it fits that's what matters. The extra ports are good to have if converting to F.I. and or adding a mechanical temp. gauge. The B engine and Hemi gen 2 fall short with water ports on manifold and water pump.

The "extra" holes on gates gasket on far left and far right aren't used(not for sealing anyway) Those holes on the wp themselves are for mounting alt and wp.
If you lay gaskets on top of each other, I bet that's the only difference.
"Extra" fitting hole is for using different sized fittings if need be.

Other than the extra port, is his old water pump the same as the new one?

Check the bottom of the pump between the bottom two bolt holes if the casting is straight across chances are it might not fit

Might hit or rub on balancer Try dry fitting it first to make sure no rub or hitting had a pump just like that and it hit the balancer found out it was a marine pump for a sbm

Might be a pump for a marine sbm
Or industrial application.
The extra port could be to feed the water-heated crossover under the carb in industrial motors. And *I think* there were differences in the industrial/marine timing covers as well (mounted the pumps higher).
If I remember correctly, some of the early (ie poly) units didn't even use a harmonic balancer, so pump clearance may not have been a consideration.
Could some supplier have pulled an old Industrial/Marine foundry master out of storage and begun using it for passenger applications, not aware of the differences? Just speculation on my part.

My buddy tried to use it but says there is no way it will go on.

I did not see it or try it so I don't know.

I thought maybe it was a poly pump or marine.

I have a 68 and older front cover so I'll bring it over one day and see for my self.

Nothing to be sorry about I ran into it when I got the new one to replace the old one both water pump inlet were on drivers side and looked pretty much the same except for the extra outlet on top

Here's my new replacement wp installed. Has 3 ports, and you can see the gasket holes on each "end" aren't needed.
Also NOS cast iron on my engine build.

I have some new photos...

Red excess metal

Yellow poorly formed ports?
