Solid Roller Lifter Question

I'm putting togather a 410" SBM with a Comp Solid roller cam and Comp 828-16 solid roller lifters. My question is, do the link bars have to be down facing the block?? or can they be run flipped with the link bars facing upward?? Facing down is going to require some grinding!! Any help would be appreciated. I'm ready to put this sucker togather, but had better wait if I've got to do some grinding!!! Thanks.
 
correct the 828-16 need to face down and some grinding is required...

there are solid lifters that require no grinding
 
If you are asking this question I have to ask if you know you can't just stick solid rollers in an LA without knowing if they are going to uncover the oil galley at full lift?

If you don't you need to do more research before you put that sucker together.
 
Must be installed with the bars facing the block. The pushrod angles prevent installation the other way. Comp makes another lifter with the bars mounted inside the lifter wall #8043-16. They will typically not require any block grinding.

Well, I just did some measuring with my trusty dial caliper and it looks like aprox. .005 of the lifter feed hole will be exposed at max lift. I imagine that will be enough to cause oil pressure loss with 16 lifters doing the same thing. I already have the lifters & proper length pushrods bought and paid for, so what's my most inexpensive option?? The old tube & peen method?? Thanks for all of the advise.

Send the lifters back and get the 8043-16's. They should have more skirt at the wheel enabling you to "drop them in" and not uncover the oil galleys.

Everything is used. I bought the top end kit from a fellow racer. Thing is he ran it in a stock/unmodified block for a few years without any problems. I'll have to do some more checking. Thanks.
 
The tube and peen method is the cheapest way around it but it is a PITA to do. I just finished doing my block and it was an all day project. Just banging the peening tool through the bores is not enough, you still have to hone the crap out of it for the lifters to move freely and reaming the galley is the worst part. I wanted to put my block in a Bridgeport and do it but it just didn't have enough room for the block and the long reamer so I had to use a 1/2" drill and do it by hand, it took hours.

I should have some pics up this week in my oil mods thread.
 
Be careful of peaning when you do the right rear lifter bore Look at it close and you will see how easy it is to crack and not know, then your done. buy new lifters!!

DJVCUDA: looks like both look about the same regarding how much of the wheel is hidden behind the body,or is it just me?

It looks like the 8043's wouldn't help with exposing the feed hole @ max lift, they look about the same in that aspect!
 
Just went thru this with my 410 stroker.
I tubed both lifter galleys, drilled .040 oil supply hole in each lifter bore. Used the 8043-16 comp lifters with .631 lift cam @1.5 rocker ratio without any problem of excessive oil pressure loss at full lift. I am using oiling thru the pushrods for a T&D rocker set up so that required the .040 dia. oil supply holes in each lifter bore. If you are not oiling thru the pushrods...you can use a much smaller oil hole to limit any pressure loss. Only other option is bush the block or grind away.
