Howdy all, I am just posting some pics of the sides of our new van for Memike. When we first got it home I posted a thread, and Mike offered to play with them a little and see if he could come up with a paint scheme for Nella to see. If you could Mike, you know Nella would be thrilled!!!

I have been slowly cleaning out the inside of all of the extra parts Chuck included to get down to the bare bones of this project. We have also joined a Mopar van website and have already made some new friends there who have welcomed us and given us some information and lots of great ideas. There are some way cool vans there, and it is inspiring to see so many people still doing vans, I thought we were the only ones left who were taking on a van project, but no way, there are lots. We just need to move to California to hang with them!!!LOL!! Anyway, if Mike can work a little magic on these pics, that would be awesome. Thanks Mike from Geof and Nella

That van is so COOL!!! Nella is going to LOVE it!!!!! Let's go Mikey!!!!! Let's see your MAGIC!!

primer flames. primitive primer flames. and skulls. primitive primer skulls. yeah. primitive primer flames and skulls. no chance of pickin up any extra kids from school there.

Stroker, have you been hanging out at the B van forum??? There is a gentleman there who was redoing a van, and making good progress too until he was out in it and got t-boned in the passenger side. Well, he was gonna scrap it but decided to try to fix it if he could. Long story short, he had the van in black primer, and decided to play with the paint scheme a little bit...yep, you guessed it, black primer, primitive primer flames, and a name on the door which escapes me right now, I think it was StrokersVan!!!LOL!!! Just kidding, but he did have it in black primer with red primer flames down the side and around the front!!! Could it be your alter ego?? Or maybe you're a closet van freak too??!!! C'mon, show us your secret van project!!!LOL!!! Geof

Well NBD, there is progress, but none to show as of yet. I'll give you a little update though. The 8 3/4 housing has been blasted and is awaiting me to remove the center section from "Sunfish" to complete the assembly. The motor is waiting to go off for a rebuild as is the trans, and on May 15th, my brother and I are making a trip to Pennsylvania so I can pick up all the windows, air dams, and other stuff I purchased from our fine member E38Valiant. Once I get the windows home, I'm bringing the van here to do the cutting for the windows, and then it will be off to paint. My painter is anxiously awaiting the van to come here so he can get a look at the task ahead, and although Nella has picked her color already, the paint she picked costs $384.00 a PINT!!!OUCH!!! Times that by the gallon of color which we'll need, and we are looking at a serious chunk of our budget just for the paint!!! I tried to talk Nella into a different color, but she's not budging as of yet. I told her we may have to sell "Sunfish" to get the paint work done...she was not pleased with Dad's "suggestion"!!!LOL!!!

So, that's where we stand on the van project so far. I may mock up an engine/trans combo and place it into the van because I'd like to lower the van, and the final ride height can't be determined without a drivetrain. I'd like to have all the cutting and grinding done before it goes to paint for obvious reasons, so we'll be looking into that while it's here. No luck on the interior either, the conversion center near us only has the middle seats which do not recline and we really need a fold down bed for the rear seat for pit stops, clothes changes and naps at horse shows and stuff, so I gotta start scouring the yards around here for suitable interior components!!

Thats all the news thats fit to print so far...more updates to come as we ramp up the action on it!! We still haven't come up with a name/theme yet...Nella didn't like my suggestion..."Purple Haze", she said it's too hippy!!! So, another name that van thread is coming from her soon to include you all in the fun!!! I can't wait to hear all your input, we had so much fun with the "Name My Car" contest that spawned the name "Sunfish"!!! Peace all!!! Geof

Thanks for the update!!! Sounds like fun going on there. Everybody loves a road trip to, to get parts!!!!

Road trips are one thing NBD, but this ones gonna be a killer. I have a performance the night before, and my brother is going to pick me up there at 2:00a.m. and we are leaving from there. I'm gonna have to sleep the whole way there so my bro can sleep the whole way back. We are stopping by Wills house to pick up my stuff and then heading north to pick up a truck cab for my brothers truck. Then we need to be home that same night so he can be to work on Monday morning!!! Not much fun and 14 hours on the road, not counting loading stuff, chatting with Will and Gary and eating. But to get the windows for this van will go a long way to getting the project going!!! I'll be a wreck come Monday, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do!!!

On a more positive note, I spent the entire day yesterday getting the motor and trans prepped to send off and getting the van ready to come home, so more progress there. I'll keep you all posted and of course Nella will be making another "Name that Van" thread soon, as soon as school work lightens up a little, shes counting the days till summer vacation already!!!LOL!!! Geof

Well, I'm sad to report that we haven't done much to the van, and probably won't have the $$$ unless the GTX sells at the Nats. This will be the 2nd year I've taken it to sell, although with the economy will probably still not be the best time. It put it's best foot forward last year and did a few dozen burnouts in Heath, but no takers at the track!!

Memike never got around to playing with the pics George, or they would be posted in this thread. We have 3 picture windows to install, and haven't come up with a theme yet either, but it will be horse related if I know Nella!!

Thats all the updates on this so far. Pretty boring, huh?? Geof
