we just finished this great street/strip engine--it is a 422" LA small block--it has a mopar performance R3 block 4.100 bore x 4.00 stroke-- Eagle Specialty Products 4340 crank and 6.123/984 H-beam rods-- Diamond Pistons 12 to 1 with 1.2/1.2/3mm ring pack--Indy 360-1 CNC 245 aluminum heads 2.10 x 1.650 valves 63c chambers--T&D rocker system 1.6/1.6-- COMP Cams roller .740/.730--.282/.286--R110-- BAM Products Roller Lifters with .150 offset on intake lifter--Trend .135 wall pushrods--Indy 1 x 4 intake with port match--Quick fuel 950 cfm carb--MSD distributor-- Firecore Performance wires-- ATI Performance Products balancer-- Milodon car pan-- ClearView Filtration system-- Driven Racing Oil 10w/30--700HP @ 7200--590 Torque @ 5700

Interesting. Nice big hp number but not much more torque than a low budget 408.
 
Frankly, with that big of head and cam, and the decent ring pack, I would have figured 40-50 horse more potential.
But no idea how the heads were prepped.
245 head is a BIG head, and that’s a TON of camshaft.
Gonna take probably 62-64 hundred flash vert to get all those big parts to 60 foot.
Agree with PBR, like to see that cam on a narrower LSA

Could be. Most of the stuff small block wise Lazzeri(sp) has built seems to always be fairly wide.
with it having mild compression and again that cam and head, getting the vert right will be extra important.
Otherwise it’s gonna be doggy out of the gate unless the car is real light.

Edit..guess I had forgotten this head still has a 2.100 valve like the much smaller 210cc-2 round head has. For some reason I thought the intakes were bigger…guess not.
 
cool build. My stick is 264-272 at .050 108LSA .750 lift. Wonder what opening that intake up and going 4500 would do?

It's actually pretty impressive tq numbers, torque is mainly a function of cid and this one is making 1.4 lbs-ft per cid which is pretty high a 408 @ 1.4 = 571tq anything over 1.3tq:cid is doing really well.
 
what pushrod diameter do they use in such builds? And why is it that some builders use offset in the intake lifter, some say it´s a no go? I think it´s a good idea to straighten out the geometry a little.....or is it done only for pushrod clearance?

The build is similar to mine, it has 1/8" less stroke and .010" more bore then mine, the cam has .029/.011" more lift and 14/15° more duration than mine. My heads have 220cc runners with 2.100 intake valves. Their power numbers were made 450/600 rpm's higher than mine did, probably a combination of better heads and more cam.

Pretty hard to compare two engines built by two different people and dyno’d on two different dynos.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing! TQ output is high for 12:1 IMO...
 
My .02 is.........If the pictures are of the motor being described......... it’s a lot closer to 14:1 than 12:1.

Be interesting to see the spec sheet on those pistons.
 
I thought it was interesting. Dyno numbers don't really mean anything anyway, right?
Bragging rights only……

Most people want to know what it dynoed at and if done, you can tell them. If not, “IDK” is the answer or X.xx at the strip @ yyy - mph.
 
Short block is very similar to the 422 in my Arrow, except based on a 340 X block with W5 heads and a holley dominator tunnel ram with dual Thumper prepared 850s, though everyone agrees, including Thumper that those carbs a too big for the combo. Can't remember the cam specs exactly but it's very similar to the cam that I had in the Dart. This car has gone 8.90 @ 155 in the 1/4 with the previous owner. I've had it at 9.12 at 146 while I was making my first 'get to know you' runs with lowered launch and shift point rpm. This Indy piece should be very stout!
