Spacer with Heat Shield?

In an effort to rid my 318 of any percolation or vapor lock issues, I purchased this Holley heat shield that comes with a base heat insulating gasket and aluminum shield. I'm considering putting the four hole 1/2" spacer between the carb and shield like in the picture. Do you think there is any performance benefit from using the four hole spacer or should I leave it out? It's a Holley 600 Classic going on top of a dual plane Weiand Stealth.

I was wondering if the positive affect of the venturi caused by the four spacer holes would be nulled out by the increase in plenum volume with the open spacer.
