So I am not sure how many people are looking for info on a spare tire for early abodies with BBP wheels and 73-76 disk brakes. 14” wheels barely clear the calipers and I’m not debating if they will or won’t.

On my newest finished car I wanted a spare tire to match the tires I put on the car but outer diameter was too big for the early a spare tire well. (This was something I overlooked on a total rebuild.- ugh!)
I needed a tire combo that would clear my calipers AND fit in the spare tire well AND be really close to the outside diameter of my existing wheels so my locker did not explode slipping. My goal was not a spare for 500 miles but one for “just getting off the highway.” Donut spare tires were my inspiration, but I was unable to come one that fit due to offset. They stuck so far out they hit sheet metal. So I found a really skinny tire. 4” wide x15” diameter. And put it on a very skinny version of my rims.

Pictures have the part numbers and sizes. No need to repeat the obvious. And the now spare is only 1/2” smaller in diameter to the current wheels. Remember the factory wheels even the KH 14” still were like 24”od.
This combo my od is like 24.5” full inflation.
My current tires are 25” od.

I hope this helps someone with a spare tire bouncing around in their trunk or with no spare at all. Good luck- Joe

I am using 2002 lincoln town car aluminum donut spares. Its a 25" diameter tire on a 16" rim which is great because it matches the 25" diameter tires going on the car, especially with the limited slip. Tires on the car are 225/60R15. This wheel has the same bolt pattern as BBP mopar. Its designed to clear big disc brakes. I am going with the Cordoba 11.87" brakes on the front and rear disc brakes. It's also a tick under 5" thick, so it fits flat in the spare tire well. Another plus is these are dirt cheap. I got 2 of em brand new unused harvested out of junked town cars for $10 each.

Jeeze Matt where was you 2 weeks ago when I posted looking for spare tire ideas.

When I initially called Summit Racing I spoke to a guy named “Bo” who was quite rude to me stating new modern spares won’t work because of the negative offset. They few yards I found willing to let me “try” the fit did not have any Lincoln’s. A lot of new cars do not even have spare tires anymore.

I posted using these awhile back. I bet using the fabo search function you can find anything on here. If your unsure how to use the search function, click on the magnifying glass icon on the upper right, type in vaguely what your looking for. Try a few different combinations, and see what pops up.

I typed in the 2 words " donut spare " and my posts on it popped up. Not sure how to link it here.

I’m mostly on here on my phone while between jobs or eating lunch in the truck. Sometimes features are different Matt between phone and desktop.
Sorry I missed your post as you have stuff I like reading.

Searching is easier on your phone IMHO. Tap on the magnifying glass icon, then type in your search, touch the search button and go. See circled pix.

Last gen RWD ford crown vick and grand marquis donut will fit too, but smaller diameter than 25" you have to file out the center register hole in the rim a little so it will fit over the chrysler hub. However.bolt pattern is the same. Cant find one locally, try evilbay.

A guy a few years older than me graduated from high school, enlisted in the Army, and bought a new Corvette. Probably a '76 or '77. A 500 blew out at an extra-legal speed, and the car was totaled. It sat next to his folk's home for years while he waited for a settlement. I heard he never got one. It was quite a contrast. His Dad kept their home immaculate, and it had this junk wreck right next to it for years.

The worst combo was Firestone 500 tires on a Pinto............
