speedo cable

Hi, my son's 72 Scamp has a problem with the speedo, it bounces. It has a two part cable that we cleaned and reinstalled, but it didn't help the problem. So we replaced the cables with a single piece, still no help. Is there a way to check the speedometer itself. Does anyone know where to get the two piece unit? Thanks for any help..

Good luck Bob. I have a similar problem. Goes from 0 to 100 back to 0 like a windshield wiper.....so hard it bent the needle. It starts this at about 2-3 mph.......walking speed. I have no idea what happened but it isn't the cable. I am going to try another head and if it works, I'll let you know. David

sounds like the speedo needs a rebuild.

i had the same thing going on . i changed the speepomator , and fixed.
