I did a 4-speed swap and now my speedo is 14mph too slow. I know I can get a new gear and swap it in, but my question is can I just use the speedo drive gear out of the 904 in my 833-OD? The speedo was correct with the 904 in the car.
Thanks
Matt

As long as your 904 & 833 have the same type of speedo gear adapter, the gear should fit. 66(?) & later or 65(?) & earlier. Not completely sure when the change was made but you can tell just by looking. The later style adapter is a lot larger, like maybe 2" in diameter. Just be sure you index it correctly when you make the swap. There are lines on the adapter that you line up depending on the number of teeth on the speedo gear.

Cool, it's all 73 and newer stuff, the 904 is 73 and the 833 is 85ish. I did a search before I posted and saw the stuff about the eccentric carrier for the gear (basically lets you use diff output gears with the same main gear, cool ! ) but didn't know if the gears were the same from a 904 to 833. I'll have to make sure it's close enough to drive the gear without being so close that it chews them up :) 35 yr old plastic yikes

I was really just worried about the the gear being the correct one. Am I correct in thinking that if the gear fits it will give me the correct speed? Basically is the gear that the speedo gear rides against the same from 904 to 833?
