Spending a few hours with my racing friends from the early 1970’s today

Car show guys, racers, speed shop owners, machine shop guys, cruisers, and yes racers will be getting together today for a big BS session. We try to get together at least once a year and our years slip by. We should be called the walking wounded as we’ve survived heart attacks, cancer, bad wrecks, gas shortages, and several other life threatening events. Not many racers left in the group but even with threats of rain today the cars will be there. These guys run the heck out of their stuff. I’m betting over 50 guys will be there today so I’m looking forward to being there.

I’m one of the youngsters at 67. A big thing back then was cruising around a local Eat n Park restaurant. My sister is four years older than me so that was back in the 1960’s. I’m sure some of out younger friends will be there too but they of course weren’t around back then. They are our future

Boy what a great get together. Not sure how many guys were there but I was way off. It went from 12:00 to 6pm and I stayed about 4 hours. The weather man’s forecast cut down on the amount of cars that came but there were still some nice metal there. The run a 50/50 drawling to help cover the burgers and dogs, pop and water. And many of us supplied a covered dish or dessert.

Honestly I didn’t know who owned 90% of these cars. I’m not into the car show scene at all. I also didn’t know many of the guys. My friend that owned a speed shop and sponsored me a little back in the 1980’s was there and did most of the cooking. He live in Florida now and comes to Pa for a few months. Also had a friend from Maryland there.
