Stage 5 Hemi conversion heads

Anyone here ever do the conversion with these heads on a lo deck block in an A body? Curious to the pros ans cons. Last i checked the heads with all the hardware was about $6500. You still need the hemi pistons and headers to fit. I would like to do this some day, but not sure its worth doing.
 
You probably come out cheaper in the long run with a Hemi crate engine.
 
I did a Stage 5 conversion in my 67 Barracuda It worked out great it was done in the early 90’s when Hemi parts were super expensive and you couldn’t find anything that wasn’t junk. I’m working on another project and considering building another 446 Hemi conversion for the car as well

Cool. How was the fit? Pass. side inner wheel well and master cylinder clearancing?
 
I found some for sale waaaaaay out in the middle of nowhere. I'd be curious how well they stack up against some trick flows on a 470, all other things being equal. If I had the money, I'd pull the trigger on them, just to be a little different.

I have heard the quality of the stage 5 heads are very good and flow big right out of the box. No junk.
 
I have a friend who did a low deck (470) Stage 5 Hemi in a 70 Duster a few years ago. Intakes are pretty much unobtanium if nothing has changed. It ran down in the 6's in the 1/8th mile. Somebody had to have it worse than he did, so he sold it.
 
A friend of mine bought some of those a few years ago. He used a 413 block to make a 426. The heads were really nice looking, the motor is all put together with a tunnel ram still on the engine stand. It doesn't look like it would fit in an a body very well, lol
 
I used a 440 block not a low deck block.
I did have to make modifications to the right inner fender, and use a block to move the master cylinder over. There is a lot of work that goes into making it fit but nothing to crazy. I can right you a book on what it had to do but when it was done no one was putting a Hemi in an a-body because nothing was available.
One thing for sure to do a Hemi conversion in an a body you must use the raised port heads. If you use the standard head you will have one hell of a time with the exhaust. Headers or manifolds will not fit.
As far as an intake manifold for a low deck Stage 5 may make an intake I'm not sure.
I have the job number for Arias Pistons but I don't know if you can still get them or if they made a piston for a low deck.
The headers I used were from Smitty Custom Headers for a B-body or E-body but I had to cut them apart and make new tubes for an A-body

I see. Do you remember the cost? I think TTI has something now for headers. If ya have time send the piston number, i'll may need that. Thanks

Stage 5 now offers a lo deck intake.
 
I wouldn`t do one for an all out race engine using a 440, big power would likely break the block between the mains and cam.
I agree. I have a 400 full of hard block. Would be a 750ish hp street deal. Just need to switch out pistons and add heads.
 
I see this thread is a bit over a year old and i'm bringing it out of the grave. I too wish to use a Stage V conversion kit. Is the complete kit still sold or do i have to piece it together myself. I have 2 options to work from. I have a 0.030 over 1968 440 block that used the LY 6 pack rods. It's a shame to take this one apart as it has 12.5:1 raised pistons in it. Other option is I have a bare 1972 bare 400 block. It's going into a 67 Barracuda Formula S notchback that is 383 BB car. 383 is long gone though. I even have the Direct Connection K frame that is A body/B engine config. K frame allows either early sway bar or 73 and later sway bar.
I wrote to stagev just now but unsure if they are still in business. thanks for any guidance.
 
I believe they are still going strong. Eric can be very busy and not real quick to respond to emails. You will want to use a 440 block for several reasons but the most important reasons are the pistons needed for the conversion are for a 440 and the other thing is intake manifold selection. I’m not sure anyone other than Stage 5 made any intake for the B block. Also you will need a set of heads that have the raised exhaust ports, the standard port location makes it almost impossible to get exhaust on it in an Abody. Good Luck I’m looking to build another Stage 5 conversion for my Superbird project. The engine in my Barracuda makes more than enough power for anything I need on the street.

Is there a source for raised port hemi A body headers? I need a set
 
Not that I know of I cut apart a set of Smitty Headers that where for a B-Body to make my headers. The Stage 5 heads use sixteen bolt flanges not the standard eight bolt flange which makes them harder to find headers for as well

I have access to a water jet and can make raised port flanges using a gasket as a template. What else will l need to do?
Wanna sell me a set of headers??
Will they work in a 4 speed car?
