I came back from vacation and battery was dead so I replaced. The truck started fine, ran for a few seconds, started leaking gas from somewhere in the carb then died. Any ideas on what this could be?

I'm thinking I may need to rebuild the carb, anyone know any good posts for a holley 1945?

I'm FAR from being very knowledgeable about these things but its sounds like you do have a vacuum leak in the carb. If its bad enough it will starve your engine, rebuild the carb.

DanDanTheMan has posted carb build info here, the holley 1945 is covered in there

Don't know what you're working on other than a Holley, I would have to add one of the following: a stuck choke or leaking/misadjusted float.

Your float is stuck, either a gummed up needle/seat or a float that has stopped floating. Tap the carb with a dead blow hammer or remove the needle/seat and clean.

may need the float replaced, most times they have a brass float that is soldered together, when you pull it out of the carb check to see that it is not filled up with fuel......Wagg's

Get yourself a trickle charger and hook it up while the car or truck sits for periods of time. I have one for my cuda, motorcycle, and lawn mower. One trickle charger that is... I just route it between vehicles. I got tired of replacing batteries.

I would recommend sure enough to rebuild the carb.... it sounds like it needs it. Compressed air, rebuild kit, gallon of the dip type carb cleaner with the basket and that's just about it.

Stuck float and/or valve. Pull the valve and spray it (and inside the hole) with some carb cleaner and reinstall. Try to put the same torque on the valve that it took to remove it so you don't change the float setting.

Look like it was probably a stuck float, rebuilt carb and runs fine, actually much better. Thanks all...
