Hi all,

67 dart round back, single field wire alternator.

I was wondering if square back stators and or rotors interchange to round back alternators?

Not really and probably not a good idea.
Could it be physically done, probably, if you were desperate.
You have looked at how they connect to the diodes. Right? :poke:

I have 3 round back cores that I need to get rebuilt, I thought about doing one myself, but I will have to get a small press. The last one on my car worked as long as it was cool, but when it heated up it would stop working, then cool, then start working then get hot etc.
My guess is the stator or rotor has a bad connection.
I guess I could bring the stators and rotors to a motor rebuilder to have them megged.

There are so many square backs out there that it made me wonder about parts

My suggestion is figure out what is needed, then look for parts.
I think its best if the rotor and stator are appropriately matched.
Carefully open them up and measure for continuity in the rotor and in the stator windings.
Note any color markings on the windings or winding insulation as well as the stamped part numbers.
You may have enough good parts to make one or two good units out of what you have.

I thought both of my my pre-70 roundbacks had bad diodes, turned out to be the rotor.
A break in the stator at the junction of the three windings can be fixed.
Rotor windings are something I'd find a place that rewinds, or another rotor.

If it turns out you need to press diodes, send me an email.

I could be wrong I don't believe they physically interchange staters to opposite case styles.
