Steering column refurb

Got the column out of the car and pulled the steering wheel. Question, want to repaint the covers on the column and wondering if I should leave everything intact and mask things off or is it fairly easy to remove the covers and paint them individually? 70 Dart

If you're just gonna paint it tape it out. If you're replacing bearings, etc., and taking it apart anyway, have fun The column shift tube assembly and those with key cylinder on them are quite complicated. Lots of samll parts.
Service manual info will probably be req'd.

i disassembled the column in my 68 cuda and had everything powder coated black.looks great.
