Now days its the more cubic inches the better, which has truth to it, but how bout the overlooked 383s and 400s...Anyone out there racing stock stroke 383s or 400s? Lets see some combos

I have a 400/727 in a '71 Duster beater that I am going to use in the Freindly drag comp here @ FABO. It is a basic '79 drivetrain with Hedman headers into a 2-1/2 exhaust w/Hooker Aero Chambers, the Holley Street Dominator is topped with a aftermarket electric choke 800 TQ, a MSDwill fire it off. There's not going to be a lot done engine wise. My son in law is takng his first stab at a MoPar with myself looking over his shoulder before he makes a mistake or bad part choice.

We really don't expect much from it. But it should be fun.

I am currently finishing up my 1968 Dart 4 door. I built a 68 383 stock 2 barrel piston engine. I put on 75 cc eddy rpm heads with stock valvetrain. 383 roadrunner resto cam, performer intake and 850 cfm thermoquad. Oh and a 4 speed. Just hoping the car runs in the 14s. I wanted to create a nostagia stocker that would have run in that time period. Everything is real period correct except the heads.

Yea, bigger is better...but those 383's are under rated for sure. Here's some that I've played with over the years:

70 Cuda - 3480# with driver
030 over 383
Speed Pro domed pistons
OE crank and rods
MP .590 cam, 4* advanced
Ported 452 heads
M1 single plane
830 Annular carb
8" ATI converter
4.89 gears
Open 2" primary headers
10x30 slick

10.90 @ 122 best in GOOD air. Usually went 11.20's in the summer.

Same 383 shortblock as above with lesser ported 452 heads and cam change to an Ultradyne .609/277* solid and a 1050 Dominator carb. In a much lighter A body, 4.89 gears, 12.2x31.25 slicks, Pro Parts headers through the muffs:

10.48 @ 126 best in summer air.

Bought a turn key 73 Cuda race car once with a 383.
Domed SP pistons,
stock 906 heads,
Crane .650/270* roller cam,
Team G intake with a 1050 Dominator.
8" A1 converter,
4.89 gears, but with a way too big 14x32 slick.
Open 2 1/8" (nope, not a typo) primary headers. Crazy mismatched combo, but at a weight of 3380 with driver:

11.08 @ 121 best in summer air.

doug those sound like great comboes, roughly what im going to put together. Thanks!

i sure will, when the snow melts off some and I get to the garage ill post some pics. but after my 383 is built and running im gonna sell all of my other bb stuff and go gen 3 hemi. 5.7 are getting real cheap, a 392 stroker rotating assembly and some eagle heads with a decent cam will pull 500+hp easy
