Yep, you need a key.

Yep, it needs a key. (As long as Poly's are the same as LA's.

i think this one is likely okay, I found a roll pin that will fit snug in the cam dowel slot, gonna locktite it in and then bolt everything back up. see what happens

You need a 3/16 X 3/4 Woodruff key... Here's what you need... I bought the last few from Ace once and kept the box so I could have the part number and description for if I needed any more in the future...

Just go to Ace Hardware and ask them for this one:

The 1/2 gallon i had left outside, totally forgot about it. Wife painted parts on the trailer.
Didnt put lid on very tight, im surprised it wasnt dried up. A thick layer on top but not skinned over. Threw it on the paint shaker for about 10 minutes. It mixed up ok. Just hope it dries.

so I got the timing cover off, gears and chain are fine... HOWEVER, the cam bolt was slipping. there's also no dowel pin/roll pin in the cam. the timing marks on the gears are way off, front of the cam looks like the gear was slipping and catching.
Run dude run and read a book or two!

It has been forever since I have been on here. Not missed I am sure, but I hope everyone is still healthy...

Your cam has a roll pin in it?

How could the timing sets be the same and your cam has a locator pin?

Interesting, I see pin and key styles pictured on the net. What does your cam gear have?
it’s actually different than my LA timing gear set. It’s a pin.

thanks, but it’s not a woodruff key. It’s an actual dowel pin.

I was looking for some stuff on Amazon and came across this (funny how they always suggest toilet paper that they don’t have any stock of).

It made me LOL!

That sucks. But, **** happens.
Some asshat was dragging a rotten old 40 foot house trailer down the highway, screws and nails falling out of it. There is crap all over the highway. Im lucky i dont need to go that way.

So anyway, Got almost everything re-installed. I took the gear into the local engine shop this afternoon and he matched a pin for me. Same pin diameter as a Chevy small block cam he said. Just have the water pump and stuff to put on tomorrow.
