Danger zone...They baked too much turns into me eating too much. Unless it's what I was actually looking for I try to buy a small amount of baked goods even if it means paying a little more.

LOL, but x2. Quick hose down and I will be heading out to Dave's

Good news! I don't need to do her brakes for inspection!
Got mine done a few days ago. 100,000 miles on original ones.

Good morning. It was so nice seeing Late Models at the track last night :steering: even though there were only 5 of them. Just not many left in SoCal anymore. A local highway contractor that has been doing the Lucas Late Model tour was there he was smokin' fast. Not many sprints either, even though there were no other sprint events in the immediate area. Back home by 9:30, far cry from the 1AM returns of the recent past. Program moves fast when there are only 8 heat races rather than 15-20. All good. WalMart is taking donations for Florence relief, they match dollar for dollar the donations up to $5M.

I'll try to clean it up more today. I couldn't peak in the spark plug holes to see if the pistons may be the original dome type, but I was told they may be. The engine was rebuilt with a 292 purple shaft and the guy I bought it from didn't have a lot of the details. All the plugs and valves indicate it was running pretty clean, although probably idling rich. I also will clean up around that crack.

The 292 purple shaft is a pretty stout cam... Definitely needs that single plane intake to match the RPM band.... :thumbsup:

I have two grown boys to help me out in that department... :popcorn:

I scored!!! Peanut butter cookies, white chocolate chip cookies, and oatmeal cookies without raisins!!!! Then a triple chocolate round cake and some frosted cinnamon rolls!!! :thumbsup:

Tacking right rear panel. Ultra thin cutoff wheel, cut away base metal and bring the 2 edges close. Lots of little tack welds.
Stop, let it cool and put out the occasional fire. Found the biggest problem so far is i cant see. Added a 4 foot led to the work area,:thumbsup:

Yes. He was using it for very short and quick drives.

I'll be selling that.

Cleaned the engine a little and did some more inspecting.
Good news, Bad news.
Cracked head was a just trick of the digital camara, or a trick of the light.

Heads themselves having a casting number for '72 340s. ie. not X heads, which I should have guessed from outside O and Z. :(
Not the worst thing in the world, but its one reason I bought the engine. I wanted the X heads since we're not supposed to do any port work.

Brought the flexible single LED flashlight :) hey - I'll take small victories.
Inside the spark plug holes I could see a sharp line on the piston tops with valve reliefs and a small dimple.
So poking around the internet, they are probably TRW L2316 pistons or something like them. :)
If so, they should work well for what I'm going to do.

Some serious heavy duty stock style rockers. I'd consider those over the ductile iron.

Staying with the back up engine.
It was cast by the day shift.
Partial VIN was on the pan rail - so definately '69 Hamtramck build.

Not much better luck on reading the engine number than yesterday. First character still looks like an L to me. LOL. Or may a C or an E but not an F. W is Windsor 340, Yes Karl you're right next is a P. Sequence numbe still fits 1969. Note weird squiggle on lower right.

Wish we had a track around here, I guess people are into other things here, Civil War reenactments, history, hard to know since we have some many newcomers, me included.
Weird feeling to have your phone unusable. I hear alerts that people are calling and texting, but I can't answer or see who it is. Hope the repair place can fix it. Otherwise I will be at Wal-Mart getting a cheap phone for now and to use as a spare. I get my sister's Apple hand-me-downs.

Matt, here is the stamped number based on some photographic imaging I just did.

EW340P27500156

E = 1969 model year
W = Windsor plant
340P = 340 engine, premium fuel
2750 = 10,000 day calendar build date, Feb 6, 1969
0156 = 156th engine built that day

No glass today. That will be some time in the future...
Just got home a short while ago. Stopped for a shoe fly pie at Dutch Haven. Grabbed a few things at the store and a pizza for dinner. Oh darn it's dark. No grass blades will be harmed today. LOL

I'll post the info and partial Vin in the lost & found. Always a slight chance someone needs the block for a matching numbers restoration and barry may know a way to unlock more info from the VIN sequence.
The engine in my car almost certainly came from a dedicated race car or a car being scrapped, so I've never bothered to check its numbers.

We didn’t try to put it in today since I’m not recovered enough and haven’t been able to get everything pulled together to do it.

But Keith did leave with a bunch of tools he can use and more that he can share with folks he knows that can use them. It was a nice visit and I’m glad to see the tools go to people that can use them.

I still have some left. Need a DeWalt battery operated circular saw and a DeWalt flashlight? There is also a cordless Ryobi drill in there too. Just stop by sometime and they are yours for the taking.

Not going to rig some lights for mowing into the night? LOL
