hey there,

quick question

i have a 318, if i found a new or used 340 crank and rods i could stroke my 318 to a 340??

thanks

No. A 318 and 340 have the same stroke. The bore is different.

You could stroke a 318 with a 360 crank turned to 318 main size and custom pistons, but with the expense of that, you would be better off building a 360.

The 318 and 340 have the same stroke. The 340 has a bigger bore, so the short answer to your question is no.

You could always put a 4" crank in that 318 for a 390" engine...

Your best bet cost wise would probably be just find a 360 you can rebuild. The 318 is a good motor but if you are gonna build something fast might as well take advantage of the extra cubic inches and the 360s are easy to find and cheap. The 340 would be cool to but expect to spend a chunk of money just for a good core motor around here i can buy 360s complete for 100-200 bucks and i think 340s that are mostly there are gonna be in the 800-1000 range usually. Good Luck with the build Justin

i think i might just stroke my 440 to 500 and be good.

what do you guys think?? good or bad??

i put together a 318 with 360 crank, makes 340 ,the pistons used in oz are just machined down good quality 318 pistons to zero deck or slightly lower
i used a 318 single plane with 318 heads tidy'd up ,afb, [email protected]
four into ones i was impressed out of all the brands of engines i've built
she impressed for what it was, twisted the left corner up at about 3,500-4000
under acceleration[just the body of course], good combo
i've got a 440 pre 76 std bore block that even in oz are cheap to get up to
520 cube eagle kits for ,that would do some a body twisting-ken

Call Vinnie Catalozzi in Winter Springs, Fl at Sunrise Auto Body. He has a brand new Mopar 318 stroker crank that he wants, I believe $150.00 for. He had it at a swap meet in Melbourne last week, and if I remember, would make a 358 cu in motor. Phone 1-407-695-0421

Or you could just build the 318 up nicely... You wont tell the difference driving a 400hp 318 and a 400hp 340. But your wallet might.
