What would you say the best bang for your buck stroker kit is 500 hp max kit

And

Which bang for your buck kit would you buy if you wanted to go over 500 hp but under 750 hp?

I was thinking about buying a 340 for my 1970 swinger 340 car but I came to the realization that its not numbers matching so why the heck do I want to spend $2000 on a 340 core when I can buy a stroker kit and be well on my way to a wicked motor. 340's are not cheap in Canada.

What do you figure, I probably won't go over 500 hp but 450 hp is quite possible maybe a touch more. Buying a 500 hp stroker kit won't leave much "overkill" and I always like to have a generous margin of that.

And the other question, will ported 2.02 915 heads breath well enough for such a motor.

I know its pretty vague situation but lets here your opinions.

I am planning to buy a cast crank rotating assembly:

I got the part number off of the Scat web site and then called Summit and got a quote for $1154 with forged pistons, cast crank, rings, bearings, and internally balanced. Will handle 500 hp without any trouble.

I hear of people oftentimes going to either ported Edelbrock Magnum heads (a little too small IMO), or something like the W2 head (W5's, Commandos, etc.). I don't thing a head originally designed for 360 cid engines will work too well. Great torque, but not much power in the higher revs.

Is that with rods too? Seems very reasonable

PHR Engine Masters Challenge 408 Stroker is Magnum based. They used ported Edelbrock Magnums and the motor made 554 HP. That head should be fine for a street build.

Its pistons, rods, rings, crank, and bearings:

If you call Summit with the part number they will give you the price. And Summit can order any of the size pistons listed. And the price I got was for the Internally Balanced kit. I have heard a few people getting these kits and the bearing clearances were right on right out of the box. However, always have them checked.
