Im having trouble removing the strut on my 64 plmouth valiant, so i can remove the lower control arm and torsion bars. Any tips on removing the strut, and i was also wondering once i remove the strut if i can remove the torsion bars while lower control arm is still connected?

The procedure I use is: After removing the wheels, brakes, and splash shields, I soak everything that moves with WD40, pull all the cotter pins, pop the tie rod ends loose, loosen the ball joint nuts about 1/4" and then pop the upper one loose while there is still some tension on the torsion bar, back off the torsion bar adjuster, remove the front strut rod nut, remove the upper ball joint nut and push the upper control arm up out of the way.(or remove it if you're changing the bushings), pop the lower ball joint loose and remove the spindle, remove the rear strut rod nut, remove the torsion bar retainer clip, remove the front lower control arm nut, drive the lower control arm to the rear with a hammer and block of wood or a mallet or use a big pry bar. Once the lower arm is loose from the k-member, the torson bar should slip right off the rear of the control arm socket, the strut rod should fall right off also. If you have some real bad rust, you may have to put the "thermal wrench" to it to get it's attention! Just don't hit the torsion bar with any heat or you'll ruin it.
Have fun, Mark

If WD-40 doesnt do it, there's some super penetrating oils out there. Liquid Wrench has one that kreeps pretty good, but Kroil is the best if you can find it.
