Hi guys as you might saw i picked up a solid 70 duster 340 4 speed , the car needs a resto but is freakin solid and planning on driving it rat rod style as is next summer , and afterwards do the body ( exterior ) like i did with my 76 duster ran on primer and cheap paint for 4 years on summer time : so heres my question money is tight for now , back to school at 32 , buying a house , got married , bought my 426 hemi last winter , cuda 70 shell and last but not least this 70 340 duster !!!!...ishhh , just want a little reliable engine , was thinking about putting the stock 340 with a little cam and headers ( needs a bit of machine work ( oversized etc ) or pull out a junkyard 5.9 for cheap but the other parts are expensive , want to put a cam in there too : SO !!! what do you think , little cheap engine for reability for this winter project , 318 360 340 5.2 5.9 ???? Ley me know and if you have recipes and budgets builds expenses etc !! Thx a lot

If that duster has a running 340 in it, you can sell that, buy a 360, cam headers and new clutch and come out money ahead

Student budget hot rodding?

360 Magnum!
Non computer efi builds will need an intake,
carb and a distributor/ignition.
Add headers & cam later.

If possible, if you don't have a transmission, grab the trucks 2 wheel over drive trans.

I did a 5.9 in front of a 727 W/3.55 gears. Excellent driver.
RPM intake, 650 AVS, junk yard distributor fired by a MP Chrome box and hooker headers into a home cobbled true 2-1/2 dual exhaust. Dyno Max Super Turbo mufflers.

That's a Harvard/Yale budget buying those cars and a hemi.

Rustyratrod ha real good advice: focus on ONE car, get it running and enjoy it while you tackle the other projects. I have made this same mistake. check out and search for his " hotrodbliss " thread -best wishes

Or a post Valiant and stick a cowl induction hood on it. INSTANT nova.

paging @memike, please report to the front desk
Post cars are stronger, would I put a cowl induction hood on it  I really don't think so, I hope to keep a flat smooth hood on it.
If I have to it will be a 64 Max wedge or Golden commando hood on Victoria @diymirage :) Let me find one and y'all let me know what kind it is
