Okay so I know I already posted a thread about subframe connectors, however I thought it might be better to start another for this one since it deviates from the original concept quite a lot. Subframe connectors are great, however i want something a little more substantial for safety. I like the idea of having nerf bars hidden under the floor pan the connect to the subframe connectors and eventually the roll cage. I found exactly what I had in mind for mustangs. I also had in mind an integrated driveshaft loop. I'm thinking one up for my Duster. It will also have an X-member and needs to include outriggers for the roll cage to mount to as well as they will extend the length of the passenger compartment. Obviously weight is important too, so I want to make sure I use as little material to get as much protection as I can. Using geometry to create a rugged structure this should be possible. Has anyone done anything like this before for Mopars?

The overall system will look something like this

As for the X-member and driveshaft loop here is what I was thinkingalong the lines of.

They will also reinforce the factory seat mount holes. Would it be better to use a system like this bmade from tubing as opposed to a system such as the US Car Tool kit which uses plates? I was thinking that instead of using torque boxes these Nerf bars would serve the same purpose while also providing more safety in case of a side impact.

No, well right now it is. But I have big plans for it on the track. And what can I say, I take safety very seriously lol. Some might see it as overkill, but frankly you can never be too safe. Its going to be right on the line between street and race. I have a full containment seat out of my dwarf car, made by Kirkey which I will mount in it for events and I also have a 6 point Schrothe Racing Harness.

That rocker/nerf junk won't do crap in a side impact. Unless you plan on getting hit by a clown car!

I suppose you are putting a full cage in the car as well.
