Well, my son Jon is down to last 6 cars on Sunday in Superstock
with his 340 Duster. He beat the man last round that beat me the
round before that. If he wins next round he has a bye into the finals!!

However, he has to get by a former world champion in the round of Six to
get there.

Plus, neither of us have been driving really well at all this race but we have been
dialing our cars very accurately and luck has been riding with us. Example: the
round that I lost = I dialed my Demon 340 @ 10.95 on the window and ran 10.950
on a losing pass. What help us is our car are very well sorted and easy to dial with the weather
station and watching the wind conditions.

Good luck to the father and son team, tell Jon we’re rooting for him.

Nice..!! Best of luck..!! Yes, a bi into the final would be fantastic..!! If you don’t mind me asking how close were the lights on the pass where you ran the “0” dial..!! ?? Swingn’

Results can be found on Dragracecentral.com including round by round for Super/Stock .. I always go on there to keep track of how Mopars are doing in Stock and Super/Stock at Points and National Meets around the country ... Good Luck Team Irving !!!

God be with both of you today.
God willin and the creek dont rise ill see you next week at winters
Gary

Ryan was .039 to Jon's .048.
he was one off and Jon was two off
His car runs low 8s to Jons 10s
and the difference in finish line MPH
is 35+ MPH which is a challenge for both
drivers.

Not our day but on to the Winternationals in
Pomona California. Then straight to the 4 Wide Nationals
at LVMS and then Double Divisional the next week.

Well, I am going to make a big change for next
few races...

I am moving up the 318 wagon from Stock to Superstock.

Gregg (TriCity perf.) built a brand new engine for tilhe wagon in
the few months before he died of Kidney Failure. It was the last
engine that he ever built and a gift to me!

It is so Damn Fast that I cannot really use it to potential without
NHRA factoring the Horsepower well up on it!

I have been running it with the timing as retard as I dare with hurting it and
all the lead weight I can use in it and a couple other tricks (50 WT. Oil for one)
I have resorted to shifting directly from first to third and not using second gear at all.
That entails going from a 2:77 low gear to 1:00 direct high gear.
Even doing this it has run 9 tenths under the index
(1.00 under gets me looked at by NHRA and in trouble)
Even doing this radical change, it has qualified
in the top 10 qualifiers at several racers already.

But it is really not consistent running in high gear virtually the full Race Track and
a challenge to Dial It correctly as conditions change.

Putting it in Superstock means the index is about a whole second faster and I
can tune and run it to its potential. However, it will be a challenge running a 11
second race car against a sea of 8 Second race cars. It will be like trying to catch
a bullet in your teeth at the Gun Range!

Stay Tuned next week.

Cool story , I love Stock and Super / Stock Mopars ! and your stories .. heres something to think about : my close friend was second in eliminator points a few years ago running a 15 second station wagon in a class full of 9 and 10 second cars .. they hated him because they had a hard time judging him at the stripe... same could be true in your case except you are a whole lot faster than 15s .. they might be faster than you but they also don't have a lot of time to think about their decision at the stripe .. in my friends case his opponents either ran out of lifted to early in most cases ... you probably know this already ... Good Luck !! I am guessing you will be in SS/M or N Automatic right ? looking forward to see how fast you will be going !

SS/NA
I am aiming to go 11.95 to 12.05.

If I can keep it one or two tenths under, I could get some more
HP off at the end of the year

I usually run O/SA

Index is 13.15 and a second under will wreck my combo I do it
twice in a year.

Crazy game where you get penalized for being Fast!

Keep up the pace and give them the competition they are worried about
Enjoy and good luck

Well we are in line for Pomona.
Two tire tread separations and one
axle bearing replacement.

I have got down to the last four in the last three
Nationals at Pomona, even though there are at least
a dozen guys entered that are clearly better drivers than
I am anymore (Mostly former World Champs/All Stars). However, Pomona
is like my home track and have been racing there since the 60s and
I am comfortable here.

Here is our line up for this race:

71 Duster 340 SS/KA
78 Aspen Wgn SS/NA

71 Demon 340 D/SA Jon's
71 Demon 340 D/SA Mine
76 Aspen 360 H/SA (My friend from Sweden
We prepare and bring it for him
to the races and he flys in to race it)

Well, Jon Mathias and I got thru todays eliminations!

Mathias put up a .001 reaction time to beat former World
Champ and Division Champ Jody Lang.

Next round he draws Current World Champs the Sorenson
Bros. A very tough draw again on the Ladder again! However,
anyone can be beaten any give round.

Jon draws Brett Calvert out of the Calvert Racing Team. Another
tough draw!
In the final four at Bakersfield in the Semifinals Brett kicked
Jon's Butt last August.

I face someone that I have never meet who races out of the Justin
Lamb camp. It will be another 40 or 50 MPH difference with him
chasing my 318 Aspen Wagon SS/NA in his SS/AM 66 Nova.

Stay Tuned!
